Building solutions provider Holcim Philippines, Inc. was recognized at an Asian CSR Conference for its sustainable developmental program that brings together various stakeholders to support the education of children in communities.

Holcim Philippines’ education initiative, Foster a Child’s Education (FACE) received the prestigious Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards (AREA) citation and trophy in the social empowerment category on June 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Attended by international delegates from the business and corporate social responsibility community, the Awards Program cited FACE for successfully leading and building a network among employees and business partners who voluntarily support around 600 public elementary and high school students in 34 schools all over the country.

The Award is given to companies in Asia with sustainable business practices and show leadership and commitment to ethical values, respect for people, community participation and protection of the environment.

Holcim Head of Communication and Corporate Affairs Ritzi Villarico Ronquillo thanked all who have tirelessly given their time and resources to the scholars, saying that the award is shared with all FACE partners who each have a part in program ownership.

“An important part of FACE is that it also mobilizes a support system for these scholars to maintain their standing in the program. It recognizes each year FACE students who have done well in academics, extracurricular and leadership activities, and recognizes teachers and FACE coordinators for their support,” she said, adding, “This also includes looking after the scholars’ nutrition and health, providing academic and co-curricular support, organizing teacher supplemental activities and livelihood opportunities for scholars’ parents and local residents, and encouraging parents to actively support their children-scholars in parent-teacher associations.”

FACE is implemented by Holcim Philippines’ Communication and Corporate Affairs in collaboration with a network of employee volunteers in different sites, sponsors, and project partners like the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Education. It is guided by the belief that “it takes a village to raise a child,” thus, the partnerships with and engagement of the school administration, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders.
