Save more, improve construction using the right cement

Most people are unaware there are various cement types designed for specific purposes to help builders in their construction needs.

To help address this, Holcim Philippines, one of the leading construction materials companies in the country, has been doing a nationwide tour of construction sites to show the advantages of using the right cement for the right application.

During the roadshows called Demo Builders, Holcim Philippines has been highlighting Holcim Wallright, its masonry cement ideal for plastering, hollow block laying and finishing applications.

The roadshow includes product presentations to educate construction professionals from planners to masons that their choice of cement helps them build better, faster and reduce costs.

William Sumalinog, Holcim Philippines Vice President for Commercial, said Holcim WallRight gives equal benefits to masons and contractors when used as part of their construction requirements.

For masons, Wallright makes work more efficient since it is easier to mix and apply on walls. On the other hand, contractors save more on material costs especially when used side-by-side with Excel, the premium quality general purpose cement.

"In a one-storey residential home that requires 100 bags, a combination of 50 Excel bags and 40 WallRight bags is enough. That reduces cement usage and they get additional savings since Wallright is more affordable than Excel," Sumalinog explained.

Sumalinog said masons who were previously unaware of Holcim Wallright used to rely on general purpose cement for all applications, which led to higher construction costs.

"With WallRight, they have a more affordable product that also performs better than general purpose cement in the hollow-block laying and wall plastering stage of construction," he said.

Sumalinog shared that Wallright contains mineral and chemical additives to enhance performance for different masonry applications.

WallRight conforms to the global standards specifications, keeping masonry walls' quality to its most optimal state. Its higher bond strength allows it to have a better quality finish than general purpose cement, he added.

By improving the knowledge of builders about the construction solutions available to them, Sumalinog said they can better serve their clients by putting up improved structures.

“Using the right cement for the right application creates value for everyone. Builders and masons benefit from this knowledge and so do their clients,” he said.
