Holcim Philippines Supports Community Nutrition Program in Brgy. Quirino, La Union
Brgy. Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union, Philippines — As part of its continued efforts to uplift the
living conditions of its host communities, Holcim Philippines supported Barangay Quirino in
implementing a 120-day supplemental feeding program aligned with the “Masustansyang
Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act.” This initiative aimed to provide consistent nutritional
support to lactating and breastfeeding mothers, as well as undernourished school children.
Through the program, seven lactating and breastfeeding mothers and 60 young learners
benefited from sustained daily nourishment, helping create healthier opportunities for
learning and development.
The initiative also contributed to Barangay Quirino receiving several recognitions for its
nutrition and community health programs, including the Outstanding Nutrition Governance
Award, Barangay Nutrition Services Delivery Champion Award, Outstanding Local Nutrition
Committee Management Award, and Outstanding Performance in Implementing the Pabasa
sa Nutrisyon Award.
“Beyond the improvement in the weight of undernourished children, pregnant and
breastfeeding mothers were also provided with nutritious meals. Through this, children are
kept healthy, protected from illnesses, and their immune systems are strengthened,” said
Ester Sotelo Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
Holcim Philippines continues to work closely with local stakeholders to implement meaningful
initiatives that contribute to healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.
