Holcim Philippines products certified as eco-friendly

Consumers can now rely more on cement manufacturer, Holcim Philippines, Inc. for environment-friendly products with the company’s offerings certified as Green Choice Products by the Ecolabelling Programme of the Philippines in February.

Consistently recognized for its excellent environmental practices, Holcim Philippines highlighted its commitment to sustainability, compliance with the environmental laws and green programs nationwide in applying for the certification from the

National Ecolabelling Programme of the Philippines-Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP).

With this, Holcim Philippines may use the Green Choice logo on the packaging of its general purpose cement Holcim Excel and its masonry cement Holcim WallRight, which are manufactured in all the company’s plants nationwide. The NELP-GCP certification further affirms the brand’s “Sigurado Ka Sa Holcim” campaign, which highlights the company’s commitment to producing quality products while taking care of the environment.

Last year, Holcim Philippines won the prestigious Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award for the seventh straight year in the Annual Mines Safety and Environment Conference. Its excellent quarry rehabilitation program in all its sites is among the major drivers of its performance.

Holcim Philippines’ facilities have also been cited for energy efficiency and contribution to waste management in its communities by using solid wastes as alternative fuel and raw materials. These have allowed the company to significantly cut its carbon dioxide emissions since 1990.

Holcim Philippines President and CEO Eduardo A. Sahagun said the Green Choice certification is consistent with the company’s advocacy that the construction industry is crucial in the efforts to achieve sustainability.

“Our company is proud and thankful for this recognition. Our commitment to sustainability allows us to produce cement in the most eco-friendly way. With the huge demand for cement in this strong economy, our customers are assured that our products give them the best value for their money and allow them to contribute to the development efforts in a sustainable manner,” he said.

The NELP-GCP, administered by the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc. (PCEPSDI), was instituted to guide consumers in choosing products that are environmentally sound. The program was also meant to encourage manufacturers to adopt processes and supply products with less adverse environmental impacts.
